Industrial Cleaning

Industrial Machinery Cleaning Using Dry Ice Blasting and Hand Cleaning

When a surface is cleaned at home, you generally apply a cleaner, let it stand, then scrub or wipe it off. It’s not very complicated.

Industrial cleaning, on the other hand, often requires a blend of delicacy and the ability to cover a lot of ground very quickly.

How do you strike that balance? The key is to use the best techniques and practices possible to allow for the greatest efficiency.

For a close-up view of what that looks like, join us for a quick tour of an industrial cleaning project that we recently wrapped up. It involved a combination of dry ice blasting and hand cleaning as we worked to transform roughly 51 machines for our client.

Our Industrial Cleaning Goal

These 51 machines had a real problem: on one hand, they contained very sensitive components. On the other, however, they were covered in a sticky, stubborn, adhesive residue. This called for a powerful cleaning approach, but also one that wouldn’t risk damaging the delicate aspects of the machinery.

Some parts we were able to carefully clean with an industrial degreaser and both terry towels and microfiber cloths, but others called for something a little, well, cooler.

Dry Ice Blasting (A Very Cool Technique)

In a nutshell, dry ice blasting uses thermal shock to remove residue and contaminants from even the most sensitive of equipment. A specially-developed compressor sprays dry ice (frozen CO2) onto the surface being cleaned, which then instantly vaporizes as it makes contact. As it vaporizes it creates tiny shock waves which, in conjunction with the thermal stress caused by the rapidly plummeting temperature, cause that upper layer to loosen.

If you would like to know more about the benefits of this particular cleaning process, please take a moment to visit our dry ice blasting page.

As we put these various cleaning processes to work, we also used HEPA-equipped dustless vacuums, creating a very clean, neat, and controlled work environment. As an extra precaution, we tarped off each area as we went, and worked during off-hours so that we never interrupted our client’s operations.
