Epoxy Flooring

Why Anti-Microbial Floor Systems Are Important

A lot of our commercial and industrial business customers have a vital need for clean, microbe-free floors. They could be anything from agricultural facilities and factories to medical facilities. Cafeterias, restaurants, and even some athletic facilities might need them as well. And, as you can see above, even airport hangers require them.

There two different but very common anti-microbial floor systems—urethane and epoxy. Let's have a look at them.

Urethane floor systems come in many types, and are known for being highly resistant to abrasion and chemicals. Epoxy, on the other hand, is an incredibly durable resin, known for its formidable adhesion. All of these flooring systems are resistant to microbes, chemicals, and general wear and tear—all of which the floors will endure at commercial and industrial facilities. They are also easier to manage than other floor systems, though they do require maintenance (they aren't self-cleaning).

Epoxy has been around longer than urethane, and is therefore more well-known. Urethane, as noted above, has its specific strengths, but isn't as popular. This, however, doesn't mean its any less right for your facility.

In fact, if you're wondering which type you should go with for your facility, the answer is that it really depends. Each facility has its particular needs, making the selection of urethane or epoxy a very particular decision-making process. For example, if you're a food industry businesses, if you're cleaning your floors with very, very hot water or steam, epoxy is not your best choice. Urethane floors can better put up with that sort of abuse. We also like to talk about the type of traffic that the floors are subjected to, be it foot traffic, forklifts, steel wheel carts, etc. This helps us better build a floor system for your needs.

A paint professional will guide you through this process, and help you arrive at the best flooring system for you.
